The Matterhorn

“Scale the snowy summit in your racing toboggan and then speed, screaming down the slopes, to a sensational splashdown. Get ready for a barreling breathtaking blast to the bottom. Plummet into an Alpine pond.” That’s the description of the bobsled ride down the Matterhorn at Disneyland

I can remember as a kid anticipating the trip to Disneyland, waiting in line for an hour then spending one of my “E” tickets to ride the bobsled! That’s just how I feel right now about Summit! We actually open tomorrow and I get to get into the bobsled!

The anticipation has been just like the night before Disneyland! I feel like God’s kid (Ephesians 5:1) one of His “dearly beloved children” beginning a wonderful adventure! If you have time come join us at the new Summit School tomorrow as we rejoice in God’s hand and pray for His guidance, presence and ministry in our lives!

Psalm 34:1-9

“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

How Great is our God!

On my way to my new office that song came on the radio, “How great is our God, sing again how great is our God…” and the events that had led up to today flashed through my mind. He has orchestrated a number of miracles to bring about just this day! He has confounded the wisdom of men to perform His work through a group of willing servants who have the faith and the willingness to trust Him to do His work in their lives. And He has chosen me to serve Him according to His good pleasure! “How great is our God!”

Today I set up my temporary office. It had all the necessities, coffee, tea, soft classical music, and internet access. Peet’s Coffee was the perfect place to begin my first day as Principal of Summit, perfect annonymity I thought so I could get all my work done!

I had just sat down and opened my laptop to do some e-mail and a young man (thirty something is young to me) said, “excuse me I just noticed your shirt, Summit Christian, is that a new school.” I was a little surprised because I forgot I was wearing the new Summit shirt but, gathering my composure  I told him the amazing story of the last several weeks. During the exchange he commented that he was a former student of the old school in Carmichael and was excited to hear what God was now doing in Fair Oaks. “Sing again how great is our God!” played through my mind as he left.

A few minutes later one of the local church’s youth pastors walked in and I shared again the amazing story of Summit! After we finished our conversation the song returned “sing again how great is our God!” But now half of my morning was gone and I hadn’t got any of my important tasks accomplished.

I hurried over to the County offices to get some paperwork for permits expecting the worse but instead was kindly greeted by more people who noticed my Summit shirt and again allowed me to tell the amazing story for the third and fourth time in two hours! “How great is our God!”

By the end of the day I had retold the amazing story of Summit to six different people who I had never met before! I didn’t get my work done but was sure that I had done some of His! But perhaps the most amazing thing of all is that the story of Summit is all about God, not the people He has chosen to use! People wanted to hear about the amazing God we serve and what He is doing today in our community! Wow! “How great is our God, sing again how great is our God!

Changes

Yesterday I said goodbye to my daughter, son in law, and two grand kids from Pittsburgh. And I said goodbye to the classrooms that I had become so familiar with. Today I will say goodbye to Victory Christian Schools. But I can’t say goodbye to the teachers, students and staff because they are already gone. So if you are a former member of the Victory Fair Oaks community thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life!

As I thought about the teacher’s and staff it is amazing to consider their commitment to the Fair Oaks school over the years! They are all truly God’s servants and the fruit of their ministry will be continuing for many years!

Tomorrow I officially become Principal of Summit Christian School and will occupy our offices at 5010 Hazel Ave. Fair Oaks on Monday! I am excited to see what God is going to do next! He is going to fill the empty rooms. And He is going to bring all of the teachers, staff, students and parents that He wants in this new work, which He has begun. Praise be to God!

Sunday’s Blessings

Pastor Sherman at Sunrise Community Church had a great message for me about love today. It really struck me how important it is for us to love everyone regardless of the circumstances that we encounter. 1 Corinthians 13 calls us to love at all times and points out that Christian love “keeps no record of wrong”. I’m even more convicted of our need to keep our eyes on Jesus as we go forward so that we waste no energy or time on things of the past! God has begun a new work in Fair Oaks and we need to move toward the “goal of the high calling in Christ Jesus!

As I arrived at church and as I was leaving it was a great blessing to receive many encouraging words from parents and even a former student of the Fair Oaks campus. I was reminded again that this is God’s work and He is the one who is ordering our steps if we trust and obey Him, Oh “Jesus, Jesus blessed Jesus, just to trust Him at His Word!”

We are at Grace Bible Soon!

Grace Bible Church has given us the green light to begin setting up shop at 5010 Hazel Ave. Fair Oaks on June 1st! We’ll get the phone numbers to you as soon as they are available.

Summit Christian School

Greetings!

This is my blog for Summit Christian School! I’m going to try to post to this blog every day to keep you posted on what is happening as we journey through the development of this great new school. Please feel free to send me photo’s and information related to Summit and I’ll share with our community.

What we need now

A number of you have called or e-mailed me (my new e-mail for Summit is (principal@summitcs.net) to ask what needs to be done next. The most important thing is to sign up your students so we can get an accurate count of who is coming back next year! We want to begin offering our great teachers contracts as soon as possible so they know their future.

Now if you are new to Summit Christian School please e-mail me or Debbie our Registrar (registrar@summitcs.net) and ask for the paperwork to begin the enrollment process.

But the next most important thing you can do is to tell everyone you know about this great new school!
